A project begun in 2006

Marco Belli and Barbara Monacelli came to Bolgheri from Emilia. In 2006 they bought undeveloped land in Sant’Uberto and began the project that became Villanoviana. The Bolgheri consortium records the completion of the winery in 2015.

The estate sits near the village of Bolgheri and its cypress avenue. The founders remain directly involved in production, according to the winery’s own account. Their story is one of establishing a working estate in a chosen territory.

Vineyard practice and cellar design

The winery describes the use of Bokashi, a composting method based on fermented organic material. In the cellar, concrete vessels are used for fermentation and French oak barrels occupy a temperature-controlled underground ageing room.

Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot are among the planted red varieties; the estate also lists Vermentino and Viognier. The combination gives buyers a starting point for looking at both the red and white sides of this coastal Tuscan producer.

Reading the range

Villanoviana’s own range distinguishes the single-variety Cabernet Franc carrying the estate name and the Merlot Ferrugo from its other wines. Sant’Uberto is presented as a Bolgheri Superiore, Imeneo as a Bolgheri Rosso and Ebesco as a Toscana red.

Teia is the white wine in the range. When exploring these wines for your business, ask for the technical sheets and appellation details of the vintages currently offered. That gives the commercial discussion a precise starting point.

Discuss Villanoviana for your market
